Towing check

Most compact machines are moved on a plant trailer behind a ute. This check compares each Rippa machine's operating weight plus your trailer against your vehicle's braked towing limit.

Vehicle braked towing capacity (kg)From the owner's manual or compliance plate. Common: 750 to 1,500 kg for cars and small SUVs, 2,500 kg for many mid-size utes, 3,000 to 3,500 kg for dual-cab utes and large 4WDs.

Trailer tare weight (kg)Empty weight of the plant trailer. Typical: 450 to 600 kg for a 2 t trailer, 700 to 900 kg for a 3.5 t trailer.

Trailer ATM rating (kg)Aggregate Trailer Mass on the trailer's plate. The load can never exceed ATM minus tare.

Safety margin (%)

A guide only. Your vehicle's Gross Combination Mass, ball weight and payload also apply, and any trailer over 750 kg needs brakes; over 2,000 kg needs breakaway brakes. Confirm with your vehicle manual and your state's road rules before towing.
